Fluorite
Fluorite
Second Chance Mine, Tombstone, Tombstone Mining District, Cochise County, Arizona, USA
42 x 28 x 16 mm
Fluorite belongs to the isometric crystal class and most often occurs as cubes, with octahedral forms far less common. Tombstone fluorites range from octahedra to cuboctahedra, with some showing rounded sides or appearing nearly spherical. The faces often carry an unusual surface texture, where many micro-fluorite faces combine to form a single face of a larger octahedron. Paired with the translucency of the crystals, this gives them a luminous quality, as light reflects off countless tiny surfaces across a single face. This specimen shows lilac coloration throughout, deepening to darker purple in concentrated areas to create an almost speckled appearance. With densely packed crystals and unique coloration, this is an excellent representative of the beauty of Tombstone fluorites!
