This Herkimer Diamond mine, located in Middleville, NY, is known for it's fabulous skeletal specimens and intensely smoky crystals. While the crystals might look like smoky quartz at first glance, the mechanism of coloration is disseminated pyrobitumen, rather than irradiation and traces of aluminum. Though this mine is located just minutes away from Ace of Diamonds Mine and The Herkimer Diamond Mine, the specimens found there are often very different in appearance.
