Quartz Var. Herkimer Diamond
Quartz Var. Herkimer Diamond
Herkimer Diamond Mine (Herkimer Diamond Development), Middleville, Town of Newport, Herkimer County, New York, USA
24 x 14 x 10 mm
Gorgeous Herkimer Diamond quartz cluster with fantastic luster and sharp crystal form, with one of the crystals displaying slightly greater clarity. The two doubly-terminated crystals are relatively equal in size and similar in shape, making this a well-balanced piece worthy of a high-end display. Along the glassy faces, a handful of indentations show where this pair of gems grew in contact with the host rock, the Little Falls dolostone. Several small geometric indentations or "footprints" show where neighboring crystals one sat, with the most notable being at the termination of one of the quartzes. Collected by Sam Tello in April 2025.
This specimen has been cleanly reconstructed along the contact between the two crystals, in order to preserve the cluster as it sat in the dolostone vug for over 300 million years. Please contact us with questions, or if you would like more photos/video.
