Quartz, Adularia, and Epidote on Amygdaloidal Basalt
Quartz, Adularia, and Epidote on Amygdaloidal Basalt
Mass C Shaft, Ontonagon Co., Michigan, United States
34 x 27 x 25 mm
A beautiful mineral combination of milky quartz with a vitreous luster, light orange adularia, and granular green epidote. The crystals sit in a little pocket with an amygdaloidal basalt matrix. It is from the historic Mass C shaft in Ontonagon, Michigan. This piece came to me from the miner who collected it several decades ago when he and his friends were granted access to old mine shafts on private property, venturing up to half a mile underground. These shafts are now inaccessible, making specimens from this locality increasingly rare. The piece features distinctive orange adularia crystals colored by disseminated copper. Miniature-sized specimen.
