Native Copper, Microcline (Var. Adularia), Epidote, Quartz, and Tenorite
Native Copper, Microcline (Var. Adularia), Epidote, Quartz, and Tenorite
3rd Level "Silver Forest," Mass C Mine, Ontonagon County, Michigan, USA
35 x 26 x 21 mm
Excellent native copper matrix specimen with tenorite-coated copper accented by crystals of green epidote, orange microcline variety adularia, and milky to clear quartz. This combination of minerals makes for an intriguing and visually interesting piece with great contrast. An awesome piece of history from Michigan's Keweenaw peninsula.
I acquired this specimen from Karl Schaffer, who collected it in the early 70s when he and his friends were exploring the Mass Mine shafts. This piece was discovered on the 3rd level of the Mass C shaft, from the area coined the "Silver Forest." These shafts are now inaccessible, and very few of these specimens are available on the market.
