Pyrite
Spruce Ridge, Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie River, Snoqualmie Mining District, King County, Washington, USA
54 x 38 x 24 mm
Spruce Ridge is considered by many to be one of the top USA pyrite localities due to their size, quality, and form. Sharp, well-formed dodecahedral, also called pyritohedral, crystals are favorites among the specimens produced there. This pyrite crystal, measuring at 5.4 centimeters, features a brassy metallic luster with well defined faces with light striations. The crystal is partially complete with lightly oxidated surfaces and a small number of knicks on it's edges. An excellent representative specimen of the pyritohedral specimens from this desirable US locality.
The market is notably limited in Spruce Ridge material for a good reason. Obtaining specimens from this locality requires collectors, who are members of a private mining collective, to repel down the cliff face in full climbing gear to access the well-mineralized portion of the cliff. This limits the specimens that make it to the market, as only the best specimens are packed out.
