Quartz Var. Amethyst
Quartz Var. Amethyst
Chiredzi mining district, Chiredzi District, Masvingo, Zimbabwe
25 x 17 x 12 mm
An exceptional scepter quartz from the Chiredzi mining district, featuring a well-developed amethyst crystal elegantly positioned atop a stout milky quartz base. The lightly textured, vitreous faces reveal a captivating array of internal features, including discrete zones of intense purple coloration and wisps of smoky brown that shift in intensity as the specimen is rotated. Most notably, fine red hematite inclusions are dispersed throughout the crystal body just beneath the surface, creating a striking glittering effect. Internal voids present within the crystal provide insight into its complex growth history.
This specimen distinguishes itself from typical Chiredzi material through its masterful balance of purple and smoky tones while maintaining sufficient clarity to allow light to interact beautifully with the hematite inclusions. A superior example from this notable Zimbabwean locality.
