Calcite
Calcite
Maybee Quarry, Maybee, Exeter Township, Monroe County, Michigan, USA
38 x 27 x 27 mm
Maybee Quarry, located in Monroe County, Michigan, is well known among Midwest collectors, with specimens of calcite, native sulfur, and celestine from the site represented in museums and collections across the country. This calcite is a classic representative of the locality, displaying subtle warm golden hues and a waxy luster characteristic of Maybee material. The crystal form sits at an interesting transitional point between rhombohedral and scalenohedral development, an appearance shared by many calcites from Monroe County.
The specimen was mounted to a display by a previous owner, so there is residue in some discreet areas. It does not detract from the display ability of the specimen, as the residue is on the "bottom." This is shown at the end of the video.
