A thumbnail specimen (25mm) of astrophyllite from the Poudrette Quarry, Mont Saint-Hilaire, Québec, Canada, featuring the species' characteristic bladed crystals arranged in radiating, starburst sprays with a rich golden-bronze metallic luster. The crystals are set against a matrix of earthy white albite with some black aegirine crystals that provides a clean, high-contrast backdrop that allows the metallic sprays to present themselves to full effect. Mont Saint-Hilaire stands among the most mineralogically significant localities in the world, and astrophyllite remains one of its more sought-after and uncommonly encountered species. Collected in the late 1990s.
