A water-clear Herkimer Diamond nestled within a calcite-filled vug, collected by our team from the Herkimer Diamond Mine, Herkimer County, New York, in 2025. The quartz crystal itself displays an exceptional vitreous luster and remarkable clarity, allowing the eye to penetrate deep into the interior despite the calcite matrix enclosing much of the crystal. One face bears a natural cleavage fracture, likely as the result of stress introduced during the long course of geologic history. The surrounding calcite carries modest surface wear consistent with the extraction process, lending the piece an honest, as-collected character. The specimen has been selectively trimmed on several sides to produce a stable, well-proportioned cabinet display piece.
