This specimen from Ace of Diamonds Mine in Middleville, New York, showcases a dense group of Herkimer Diamond quartz crystals formed within a narrow druzy quartz-coated pocket. The crystals are bounded on two sides by thin plates of druzy quartz with iron mineral oxidation on the exterior surfaces. Lustrous crystals can be seen both tucked within the pocket and extending outward from it. Though many of the quartz crystals are incomplete, this is a highly gemmy specimen that demonstrates the fascinating growth behavior of quartz formation in confined spaces.
