Herkimer County, located in Upstate New York, is the namesake locality for the quartz variety known as "Herkimer Diamonds." The crystals found here are renowned for their exceptional clarity, vitreous luster, and characteristic double terminations. Typically, larger crystals contain more imperfections, but this specimen defies that trend with its remarkable condition for its size, measuring over one inch in length. It displays excellent clarity, luster, and form throughout. Minor internal inclusions are present but do not detract from the overall transparency. Contact marks in some areas indicate where the crystal grew against the host rock. Collected by Jenna Thompson at the Herkimer Diamond Mine in April 2025 from a particularly productive section of what is known as the "Gemmy Layer" within the Little Falls Dolostone formation.
