Celestine & Calcite

A chunky, sky-blue celestine crystal crowns one edge of a Wood County, Ohio matrix, while a drape of terminated, clear to tan calcite points cascades across the remaining surface. The celestine exhibits the textbook blocky habit for the locality, its faces softly frosted yet still revealing faint internal zoning. In contrast, the calcites are bright and semi-transparent, flashing light that accentuates the pastel blue beneath. Pieces that balance both species so evenly are far less common than pure celestine plates, and the unusually clear calcites lend a fresh look to this classic Midwestern occurrence. The sandy host may shed a bit of loose grit when moved, but the crystallized section remains solid and ready for display.
