A beautiful, water-clear quartz crystal—famously known as a “Herkimer diamond”—peeks out from the dolostone matrix collected at the Herkimer Diamond Mines, Middleville, Herkimer Co., New York. The upper termination protrudes above the rock, while a second face peeks out lower in the pocket, creating a natural “window” that channels light straight through the gemmy interior and ignites bright internal reflections. Matrix-attached Herkimers of this clarity are far less common than loose crystals, and the juxtaposition of geometry against the earthy host rock makes for a striking display. Collected by our team in April 2025, this piece captures the classic brilliance and form that have made the locality legendary among collectors.
