An absolutely stunning Herkimer Diamond specimen with excellent clarity, large glassy faces, and beautiful double terminations. At a weight of nearly 9 grams, and measuring 29 mm from point to point, this raw crystal is of exceptional quality and clarity for its size. Contact marks show where the crystal grew perched against the host rock, and small geometric imprints show where neighboring crystals once grew. A few internal voids, also known as negative inclusions, can be seen within the crystal.
Herkimer Diamonds formed over 300 million years ago through natural earth processes. "Herkimer Diamonds" are naturally formed quartz crystals that were given the nickname "Herkimer Diamonds" because they are from Herkimer County, New York and their natural appearance resembles a cut diamond. This crystal has the characteristic clarity and dual terminations that Herkimer Diamonds are known for worldwide.
