Fluorite, Quartz, and Muscovite
Fluorite, Quartz, and Muscovite
Yaogangxian Mine, Yaogangxian W-Sn ore field, Yizhang Co., Chenzhou, Hunan, China
32 x 26 x 18 mm
Beautiful fluorite crystals with great transparency on muscovite matrix. This specimen is an excellent example of the stunning fluorite specimens that the Yaogangxian Mine in Chenzhou, Hunan, China, is so well known for. Fluorite collectors consider this locale to be among the best in the world for high-end, unique fluorites. The beautiful zoning seen in these fluorite crystals formed as the result of changes in the environment of formation. Crystal growth begins from a central point, known as the "seed" of the crystal. This growth occurs slowly, layer by layer, outward from the seed, through the alignment of atoms. Fluorite is composed of the elements Calcium and Fluoride, with its formula being CaF2. While these crystal were growing, rare earth elements (REEs) substituted into some of the sites that Calcium would occupy. This causes vibrant colors to be represented in the regions of the crystal in which these elements are present. 13.20 grams.
